The Gray Box of Doom

So we did it.  We cancelled our tv service.  This happened almost three weeks ago.  And may I say, it rocks.  I almost thought I'd have some issues with letting go--not following the shows I so looked forward to each week--but no.  Cold turkey.

I thought I was a person who didn't really follow that much tv anyway but then I sat down and thought about it.  For someone who "doesn't watch a lot of tv" I sure managed to fit a lot in.  In no particular order (stream of consciousness):

The Office, Ugly Betty, Jon and Kate Plus 8, Deadliest Catch, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune (on occasion), My Boys, The Amazing Race, No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, Man VS Food, Antiques Roadshow, Grey's Anatomy, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Dirty Jobs, etc etc...Ugh, I'm already tired of listing them.  That's not even counting the shows I would watch because they were on.  *shaking my head in disgust*

Our household has been more productive these past three weeks and I'm finding my disposition to be calmer.  Well, I was...until tonight.  As I'm sitting at the computer I heard an all-too-familiar sound.  My husband has hooked our tv BACK up to basic cable.  Ugh.  I'm hoping it's only because my father is here and well, you know after a long day at work, sometimes you just want to watch the news.  We'll see.

In the checklist of my 30's, at least I can check off 'get rid of cable'.  My other latest save-the-world ideas are:
No more products with Sodium Laurel Sulfate (Thanks to Bill Nye and "Stuff Happens") http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/stuff-happens/episode-bathroom.html

Only shade grown coffee

Stop relying on anti-bacterial everything.  As a matter of fact, kick it to the curb

Become more self-sustaining (although, there will not be a mini farm in our back yard) with our garden, recycling, and composting.

I think that's enough for now.
